For almost two decades, 8Ball & MJG [click for interview] have been cementing their place in Hip-Hop history, whether it is as a group, or in the solo arena. But this time around fate has the tandem joining forces for what they do best with their latest joint effort in Ten Toes Down.

(more after break)

No longer on Diddy’s Bad Boy South imprint, the Memphis natives now find themselves in more comfortable surroundings with T.I.’s Grand Hustle situation.

The South’s M-O has always been to keep it in the family, and the duo don’t stray from that formula, as Ten Toes Down sees the presence of producers like David Banner and Drumma Boy, along with artists like Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em, Slim Thug, Young Dro, Bun B, Lil Boosie, and T.I. himself amongst the liner notes.

The Hip-Hop veterans then get underway with the scratch-heavy sounds of ‘It’s Going Down,’ which leads right into their current single of ‘Bring It Back’ (feat. Young Dro). From there, David Banner takes control of the boards for the well-produced ‘I Don’t Give A F*ck’ (feat. Bun B).

The stadium sounds of ‘We Come From’ give the album a quick boost with the help of its drum rolls and larger than life horns, right before ‘She’s So Fine’ takes over the airwaves, which finds 8Ball & MJG putting all of their energy towards the female species.

The good ‘ole boys keep their momentum going further with contributions like ‘Grinding,’ ‘Spotlight,’ and ‘What They Do,’ (feat. T.I.), with ill-fated cuts consisting of ‘F*ck U Mean’ (feat. Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em), and the snail’s pace of ‘Right Now.’

Maintaining a level of regularity with so many years in already can prove to be an impossible task for many legends of Hip-Hop, but 8Ball & MJG do it with ease, leading some people to speculate if they even had nine studio albums before this one.

And that right there is an accomplishment that deserves to be well recognized, especially in the ear of the “Here today’s and gone tomorrow’s.”
