For well over a decade, Duck Down Records/Boot Camp Clik have represented East Coast Hip-Hop to the utmost. It might be a new day in music, where the powers that be keep the Clik from getting infinite radio spins like the artists half their age, but that hasn’t deterred them from doing what they do best.

Right now keeping up their tradition is Steele from Smif-n-Wessun, as he puts another project into the Duck Down Records catalog with Amerikkka’s Nightmare pt. 2 Children Of War.

In recent years, Steele has been a lot more vocal about his political views, and Amerikkka’s Nightmare is the perfect platform for him to get his point across to the masses.

With him embodying the spirit of revolutionary leaders both past and present, Steele makes sure that there’s no stone unturned.

From the current earthquake in Haiti, to the conspiracy of the government purposely poisoning crops, right down to fatherless households; one-half of Smif-n-Wessun gives listeners food for thought with songs like the drum roll-oriented ‘Cry Freedom’ (feat. Dead Prez), the rock guitar-riddled ‘Child Of War,’ ‘State Of The Union Address’ where he takes a shot at President Obama, ‘Home Of The Brave (Jimmy’s Song),’ which features a rendition of Jimi Hendrix’s classic version of the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ with his guitar, the war feel of ‘Patriot Games,’ ‘Rebellious,’ and ‘Amerikkkan Skemin.’

In today’s society, there’s no question that people either don’t care, or ignore the troubles of the world by simply sweeping it under the rug, and even though Steele’s brand of music isn’t what’s going to get him on the major outlets, it’s still good to know that a handful of artists out there can care less about what program directors think, as long as they’re getting their message that they truly believe in heard.
