Over a year ago the legendary Roxanne Shante, veteran emcee Bahamadia, Invincible, Eternia, Stacy Epps, and DJ Shortee toured Europe together. These 6 women brought their different styles to Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Sweden, and Austria. While touring Invincible filmed their experience, which is presented as a documentary titled “The Revival”. “It will renew your faith in Hip Hop”, said Invincible. “The Revival” will be available for viewing soon.
Saturday night Philadelphia rapper, Beanie Sigel was injured in a serious car accident that took place in Baltimore, Maryland. Sigel was leaving the studio when a tractor trailer collided with the vehicle he was riding in. Sigel suffered injuries to his face, arms, and legs in the crash. It is unknown if anyone was harmed but, the car was totaled. Sigel is expected to soon tour with 50 cent.
Long Island, NY has bred Hip Hop greats like Rakim, De La Soul, EPMD, and Public Enemy. So it’s easy to see why DJ Boy Wonda who hails from Long Island became so inspired by music at such a young age. You would think that video games like DJ Hero were out when Boy Wonda was a child but, they weren’t. At age nine Boy Wonda was spinning records and he’s been spinning ever since. With new technology and DJ software like Serato it’s easy for anyone to become a DJ today. So to find someone who actually has “put in work” is almost rare.
I’m sure many people believe that 50 Cent has made a come back with his new song “Baby By Me” that features Ne-Yo. Besides the actual message of the track it’s a nice song. The beat is soothing and with Ne-Yo’s vocals it definitely pulls you in but, the message is ridiculous. “Have a baby by me baby, be a millionaire”, 50 says on the hook. I’m wondering how his counterparts actually feel about this song because it’s basically a call for gold diggers. Let’s be real. How many gold diggers do we know of that dream about pinning a Hip Hop artist to be their future “baby daddy”? That’s like the ultimate dream of a “gold digger”. Also, the fact that 50 is actually telling a woman that she can become a millionaire by having a baby by him shows how little he must respect life. Children should never be equal to a paycheck. On the flip side any woman that is willing to have a baby by a man just because of his financial status must not respect life either. She also may not know exactly what she’s bargaining for. Of course, I’ll assume she was referring to herself and if Lil Wayne gives Nicki the stamp of approval the whole world should right? The first time that I heard of Nicki Minaj was around November of 2008. A friend of mine was adamant that she was the baddest chick out and that I should give her a listen. I was initially disgusted. I wasn’t disgusted by the bars that she spat though. I was disgusted solely by her persona during interviews. One interview in particular allowed me to quickly analyze her as an attention seeking over sexualized joke. So I guess you can say I was a bit bias from the start.
