Before there was Eminem and company; Slum Village undoubtedly were the first MC’s to put the city of Detroit on their back. The trio consisted of T3, J Dilla, and Baatin, and even though J Dilla would leave the group to pursue other endeavors, he remained close with SV, and even more so by blessing newcomer (at the time) Elzhi to be his successor.

But over the past couple of years, the structure of the trio many compared to A Tribe Called Quest has change, do to the fact of both founding members J Dilla and Baatin both tragically passing away, along with Elzhi no longer being a part of the group.

StreetLogik.com had an opportunity to sit down with Slum Village’s T3 and Young RJ to discuss their newest album, Villa Manifesto [click for review], the internal situation with Elzhi, and the fate of Slum Village. Here are all three parts to their story.
